Elsy Benitez has more than 10 years of experience in curating
exhibitions and working with a variety of institutions,
artists, and students
to help realize their creative visions.
Currently, she is the
Events and Exhibitions Manager at Las Fotos Project. Previously, she was the Curatorial Assistant at the Shirley Fiterman Art Center in Tribeca, New York and has
curated over sixty exhibitions including large-scale works by Tom Sachs and an
Indiana focused zine themed show. Most notably she worked at Documenta
13, an international art festival in Germany, as an Artist Assistant and at the
Art Institute of Chicago assisting in the research of the Laszlo Moholy-Nagy
exhibition.
She received her M.A. in Cultural Studies with a focus on contemporary art from University of Leeds, England in 2013 and a B.A. in Women’s Studies and Art History from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2010. Her research is focused on expressions of intimacy, representation, and intersectionality.
